Excel Mechanical Co., Inc. is an established, Iowa-based mechanical contractor providing a full range of commercial HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing and building-automation services. With technicians strategically located throughout the state, we are proud to partner with reputable building owners and facility management companies in several Iowa communities. We deliver high-quality service and craftsmanship every time, whether we’re on a simple service call or providing our customers with solutions for their mechanical issues.

Excel Mechanical was founded in 1993 by Bud Wertz, Mike Smith and Alisa Smith. With the rapid growth of the company we added Scott Bell, Nick Adams, Wayne Hannan,  John Rounds and Freeman Brown Jr. The founders retired and sold Excel Mechanical to John Rounds in 2019. John has over 35 years of knowledge in the industry and has successfully worked his way from apprentice service tech, to service manager, to President/Owner of Excel Mechanical.

Excel Mechanical has grown through the power of networking, referrals and social media. With the success and leadership Excel Mechanical has grown to over 100 employees with an average of 20 years experience. We are proud to say we have partnered with many building owners, facility management companies, school districts and government entities throughout Iowa to provide solutions for their mechanical needs.

We offer a current truck fleet of more than 60 vehicles to service mechanical issues with fully-licensed and qualified journeymen, certified in their respective specialties. Our team is made up of knowledgeable, committed and experienced staff and service technicians, utilizing the latest technologies by providing continuing education for all employees.

At Excel Mechanical, we have proven ourselves in many different work environments and applications—demonstrating that no situation is too challenging. We work with commercial spaces, office buildings, hotels, convention centers, theaters, restaurants, hospitals, medical clinics, research laboratories, schools, apartment complexes, malls, retail outlets, grocery stores, factories, and so much more.
